Rain is the only winner as relegation position remains unresolved

Rain was the only winner on a day when the teams desperately fighting to avoid relegation from the JCT 600 Bradford League Division One had been hoping to pick up valuable points.

None of the seven matches was completed - two didn't even start - and for the sides at the bottom nobody was able to steal a march on their rivals.

If Idle wanted a glimmer of hope they didn't find one. They actually lost ground on the teams directly above them as they collected only two points from their game at Baildon.

Bowling Old Lane and Brighouse both picked up six and Farsley five to leave Idle marooned at the bottom and staring relegation to Division Two in the face.

Idle are 28 points adrift of Bowling Old Lane and Brighouse who are locked on 173 points. Farsley are a further five points ahead.

The rain actually spared Idle from what seemed like almost certain defeat at Baildon. After bowling out Idle for 101 with Suyash Burkul (3-20) and Mushtaq Ahmed (3-13) inflicting much of the damage, Baildon raced to 76-1 in just 8.3 overs when play was finally abandoned.

Baildon skipper Ian Philliskirk had just completed a 32-ball half-century when the weather intervened.

The best individual performance came at Farsley where Hanging heaton opener Chris Schofield made a dashing 110 from 113 balls with four sixes and ten fours. He shared a first-wicket stand of 128 with Nick Whitehill who made 55. With Thilan Thushara thrashing a rapid 47, Hanging Heaton declared after 44 overs with a score of 231-3.

After slipping to 51-3, Farsley had recovered to 162-3 after 23 overs when bad light and rain brought a halt. At the time overseas Kallum Fernando (53no) and Shabir Rashid (49no) had put on an unbroken 111 for the fourth-wicket and a close finish seemed in prospect.

Bowling Old Lane must have thought that they were in with a chance of a much-needed win when they restricted Pudsey Congs to 138-8 in 26 overs. The in-form Andrew Bairstow (39) was again their top scorer as Bilal Ejaz picked up three for 31 and Haseeb Younis (3-55). Old Lane were 14-1 when play came to a premature end.

Brighouse, who are without their injured skipper Mark Gilliver and overseas all-rounder Rizwan Ahmed, were in trouble at 40-4 in reply to a Pudsey St Lawrence score of 193-9 when their encounter was abandoned.

Fifteen-year-old Kasir Maroof hit his second half century of the weekend for St Lawrence. Maroof made 51 and was well supported by Iain Priestley (40) and Alex Stead (37). Chris Greenwood was once again the pick of the Brighouse bowlers with five for 61.

Jaffer Nazir hit 35 as East Bierley made 124-4 in 22 overs against Bradford & Bingley who were eight for one when the match was abandoned.

The fixtures between champions Woodlands and Manningham Mills and Cleckheaton v Saltaire were abandoned without a ball being bowled.
