Leaders Lightcliffe faltered again and suffered another setback to their JCT 600 Bradford League Second Teams Division One title hopes when they suffered a 49-run defeat against struggling Farsley.
Teenage batsman Joe Greaves was the Farsley hero. He made 73 and helped his side to make 187-8, a score which proved too good for Lightcliffe who were dismissed for 138. Zaffer Mahmood picked up four for 37.
Lightcliffe's lead is now a slender six points over Sovereign Health Care Priestley Shield holders East Bierley who gained a maximum 20 points from their 128-run victory over Saltaire. Gareth Davis was the highest scorer in an east Bierley total of 237-8. Saltaire were always struggling in reply and were dismissed for 109 with east Bierley skipper Matt Anderson taking five for 27.
Hanging heaton are a further six points adrift following a 50-run win over Keighley. The result was a big setback for Keighley who face Huddersfield League side Shelley in the Crowther Cup final at Morley on Monday.
Keighley must have harboured hopes of victory when they dismissed Hanging Heaton for just 110 with Ashley Robinson taking five for 33 , but they collapsed to 60 all out in reply as Mick Horner claimed four for 13.
Yeadon remain in the title race despite losing a high-scoring encounter to Pudsey St Lawrence by three wickets. Yeadon are 15 points behind leaders Lightcliffe and in this unpredictable division, still have a realistic chance.
Opener Paul Machell hit three sixes and 19 fours in a superb innings of 118 as Yeadon compiled a challenging score of 262-6. St Lawrence weren't fazed by the challenge and eased home with seven balls to spare. Duncan Butler finished unbeaten on 99 while Mark Stringer hit 42 and Niall Coleman (41).
Despite the win, St Lawrence remain in the relegation zone. The 18 points they gained mean they are now one behind Farsley, two behind Bowling old Lane and three adrift of keighley.
Gomersal, despite a 52-run win over Pudsey Congs, remain rooted to the bottom. Their impressive teenage opener Usman Salim hit 86 and was supported by Craig Lightowler (44) as Gomersal reached 228-8. Congs perished for 176 in reply despite 53 from Warren Allitt. Matthew Hirst took six for 56.
Bowling Old Lane have dropped into relegation trouble on the back of a run of poor results. The latest was a 22-run reverse against Esholt. Veteran opener Tony Brassington (47) helped Esholt to a total of 202-7, then Craig Bagley took six for 37 as Old Lane were dismissed for 180. Old Lane looked in control while Kamran Sidique (73) and Shoaib Alishan (50) were at the wicket, but once they were parted the innings went into rapid decline.
Baildon halted Woodlands' recent revival. They inflicted an eight-wicket defeat on the defending champions. Mohammad Abbas took three for 52 as Woodlands were restricted to 160-9. Baildon were steered to victory by Abbas. He completed a fine all round display by making 91.
Cleckheaton are celebrating after clinching the Division Two championship. They were assured of finishing top after beating Windhill by seven wickets on a day when their closest rivals Manningham Mills suffered a 79-run defeat against Spen Victoria.
The nine-men of Windhill were no match for Cleckheaton who bowled them out for 102 with Fraser Green taking four for 60.
Cleckheaton had little trouble knocking off the runs. Chris Dobson top scored with an unbeaten 38 and Cleckheaton received a helping in hand by the way of 35 extras.
Manningham Mills remain second despite their defeat by Spen Victoria who moved up to fourth on the back of the 20-point win. John Ireland had a fine match for Spen making 56 and taking five for 54. Ireland and Leigh Manton (46) helped Spen to compile a score of 225-8 before dismissing Mills for 146
Spen now have 202 points. That puts them 11 adrift of Manningham Mills and one behind Bradford & Bingley who beat Bankfoot by nine wickets. Waj Ali took seven for 43 as Bankfoot were skittled out for 76. Saj Haider (36) helped Bingley to their win.
Great Horton saw their hopes of promotion all but disappear as they went down by seven-wickets to Morley. Ed Ream took five for 52 as Great Horton were dismissed for 172. Opener Tom Wallis made 88 to steer Morley to victory.
Skipper Andy Wilsdon hit his second century of the season to help Undercliffe to defeat Idle by 70 runs. Wilsdon made 103 - an innings which contained three sixes and 13 fours - while Simon Medd took five for 43 as Idle were bowled out for 132.
Hartshead Moor lifted themselves off the bottom of the table when they beat Brighouse by 74 runs. Danny Barlow top scored with 53 as Hartshead Moor made 157 and followed up by taking five for 24 as Brighouse were dismissed for 83. |
