Changes planned for 2008 season

Posted: April 8, 2007

The Bradford Junior League Management Committee have put forward proposals which will mean the under-11 competition will be given a set day on the calendar for the first time.

Clubs were told at the pre-season meeting that they are proposing that Under-13 fixtures will move from Sunday mornings to Thursday evenings so that under-11s like under-15s will be played on Sunday mornings. The Under-17 competition will continue to be played on a Wednesday evening.

The Management Committee put forward their plan after staging a survey of clubs to see what days they would like to play. It followed a letter from Spen Victoria's junior co-ordinator Richard Seddon calling for change so that the under-11 competition could be give a proper slot.

In recent seasons clubs have been given a two week window in which to arrange each fixture, but this hasn't worked. Many games have not been played.

Now with a set day the competition will have a settled fixture list. Introducing the proposals chairman Michael Hope said: "We all realise that the under-11 competition has been a bit of a shambles in recent seasons and having a regular date will help considerably."

Management Committee member Tom Priestley added: "We believe that separating the under-13s and under-15s will help clubs. The better under-13s will now be able to play in the under-15s. It will also be possible for under-11s and under-15s to play in the next age group up if required."

The Junior League is also in talks with the Bradford Central Juniors about merging the under-13 competitions.
