Holders march on but it's the end of the road for Old Lane

Holders East Bierley cruised into the quarter-finals of this season's Sovereign Health Care Priestley Shield with a convincing 145-run win over Esholt.

Gareth Davis was the man who put his side on course to victory with a an unbeaten innings of 90. Skipper Matthew Anderson (41) and James Petty (38) helped swell the total to 248-7.

Esholt never looked like matching that score as they plunged to 53-7 before being bowled out for 103. Paul Ellis was the main destroyer with four for 36.

Last year's beaten finalists Bowling Old Lane are out. They lost by five wickets to Farsley who gained revenge for the defeat Old Lane inflicted on them in the first round last year.

Old Lane were always struggling after being bowled out for 116. Shahid Alishan (41) tried hard to revive his side but gained little support as Adam Walker (2-13) and Ryan Lumb (2-14) bowled tidily. Farsley reached their victory target with some ease thanks to opener Barry Frankland (38). Old Lane skipper Haqueq Siddique fought hard and took three for 36 in a losing cause.

Yeadon, winners in 2005, won a close game with Baildon by six runs. The Machell brothers Paul and Richard played key roles in their success. Both made 31 in the Yeadon innings of 181-8, then took three for 21 and three for 33 respectively as Baildon were bowled out for 175 despite a deiant 68 from Jeremy Softley.

Division Two side Spen Victoria produced one of the surprises of the day. They defeated the nine men of Pudsey St Lawrence by 67 runs. Spen's success owed much to the father and son combination of Chris and Dave Hester. Dad Chris made 66 and Dave (55) as Spen made 283-7. John Ireland with 50 off just 30 balls and Lee Manton (39) added valuable runs against an attack in which young Chris Sharkey took four for 48.

St Lawrence were dismissed for 216, a score built largely on the efforts of Phil Wilson (75) and Hans Randawana (45).

Gomersal left their indifferent league form behind them as they beat Saltaire by 28 runs. Skipper Andy Fearnsides made 55, Danny Regan (43) and Craig Lightowler (33) as they reached 202-8 before dismissing Saltaire for 174. Jarer Agha top scored with 53 for Saltaire.

Woodlands poroved too powerful for Division Two side Idle as they ran out winners by 142 runs. Woodlands made 265-5 with Keigh Robson (65no), Richard Godfrey (56) and Ciaron Garner (62) piling on the agony for the Idle bowlers.

Idle were dismissed for 123 as Harry Smallwood picked up three for ten. Steve Marsden (31) top scored.

Division Two leaders Manningham Mills went down by five wickets to Hanging Heaton after being bowled out for 81. Shahid Saleem (20no) was their top scorer while James Byrne (3-23) was Hanging heaton's most successful bowler. Michael Smith made an unbeaten 37 for Hanging Heaton who struggled against the bowling of Saed Ahmed (4-25)

Undercliffe secured a four-wicket win over Cleckheaton off the final ball of their match. Moey Hassan (32no) steered his side home to complete the good work done by openers Jed Din (87) and Sonny Matharu (39)as they chased down Cleckheaton's score of 230 all out. Chris Dobson was in sparkling form for Cleckheaton and made 93 while Russell Noble hit 45, Matharu was the pick of the Undercliffe bowlers with three for 41.
