Dennis Halliday - Umpire & President of Great Horton |
Umpire Dennis Halliday is recovering at home after suffering a broken jaw when he was hit in the face during the final over of Woodlands' six run win over Baildon on Saturday.
Halliday suffered his injury when he was unable to get out of the way of a frocious straight drive from Baildon's Matthew Duce, three balls from the end of the game.
The ball smashed into the left side of Halliday's face and such was the force of the shot that it fractured the right side of his jaw.
Halliday, who is president of the Great Horton club, is in his second season of umpiring. JCT 600 Bradford League president Keith Moss said: "We are saddened to hear of Dennis's injury and we all hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.
This accident just goes to show how dangerous umpiring can be and it is good to hear that the players acted in a repsonsible and sympathetic manner when this injury happened."
