Division One

Saltaire are proving to be something of a surprise package. Even their most ardent supporters could not have expected their side to open the season with wins over East Bierley and Gomersal, but that is exactly what they have done.

They followed up their opening day victory over East Bierley by defeating newly-promoted Gomersal by ten runs. Worcestershire seam bowler Imran Arif sealed their success by taking two wickets in successive balls to finish with four for 46 as Gomersal were dismissed for 199.

Gomersal had looked on course to register their first win when they started their reply to Saltaire's total of 209-9 well through Richard Gould (41) and Shahzaib Khan (33) After they were parted Tim Linley (4-70) and Arif took wickets at regular intervals. Former Saltaire batsman Gulsheraz Ahmed (49no) tried to rally Gomersal but ran out of partners.

Arif (34) and Waleed Akhtar (30) were the main contributors in the Saltaire innings while Gulsheraz Ahmed (3-23) was the pick of the Gomersal bowlers.

Saltaire's win puts them in fourth place - six points adrift of leaders Woodlands who have maximum points from their opening two games.

The champions proved far too good for a Bradford & Bingley side which has been tipped in many quarters to be title contenders. Woodlands won by 130 runs and dominated the game from the start.

Openers Scott Richardson and Sam Frankland set the tone with a first-wicket stand of 167. Richardson struck five sixes and 13 fours in making exactly 100 - his first century for the champions. Frankland hit four sixes and 12 fours as he made 90.

Off spinner Matthew Cockshott (4-43) and Richard McCarthy (4-57) ensured that Woodlands did record an even bigger score.

Bradford & Bingley were soon in deep trouble when they replied. They plunged to 13-5 and despite the efforts of David Clow (37) and new boy James Davies (30) they were dismissed for 116. Pieter Swanepoel maintained his excellent start to the campaign by taking five for 27.

Baildon are second after a thrilling one-wicket win at Hanging Heaton. Tabi Bhatti's innings of 58 was decisive in helping his side to scrape home despite the efforts of Vipinal Manikoth (3-42) and James Byrne (3-23) who battled hard to defend Hanging Heaton's modest score of 150 all out. Hanging Heaton were undone by the bowling of Ahsan Butt (4-35) and spinner Mushtaq Ahmed (3-40) as only Haroon Rashid (32) made an impact.

Last season the Pudsey rivals St Lawrence and Congs both lost their first three games but this time they have both won their opening two fixtures.

St Lawrence skipper James Smith made 50 and Gareth Clough (47no) as they secured a five-wicket success at Cleckheaton. The home side were restricted to a score of 173-6 when they batted first. Former Yorkshire player Neil Nicholson (63no) and Mark Cummins (47) battled hard but couldn't spare their side from a second defeat.

Left hander Mark Gill continued his good start to the campaign for Pudsey Congs by making 83 not out as they defeated Manningham Mills by six wickets. Gill shared in an unbroken fifth-wicket stand of 111 with Jeremy Batty (46no). Former Yorkshire spinner Batty had earlier taken four for 60 as Manningham Mills reached 184-8 in their innings.

Yeadon skipper Grant Soames took five for 49 as his side defeated newly-promoted Farsley by three runs in a high-scoring game. Soames ensured that Farsley fell tantalisingly short of their victory target of 283 despite the efforts of Harpal Ryatt 45, Shabbir Rashid 43, and Harvey Anderon (35). Yeadon owed their total of 282-7 to the efforts of Dan Shuffe (96), James Todd (52) and David Leather (41no).

Division Two

Bankfoot's new South African Greg Fotheringham made his maiden Bradford League century as they went to the top of Division Two with a 116-run win over Hartshead Moor.

Fellow new recruits Edward Walmsley (59no) and Marcus Walmsley (34) were the other main contributors to a score of 243-4. Hartshead Moor, who scored a surprise win over Keighley last week, were dismissed for 127 as Greg Colehan took five for 42.

Spen Victoria opener Matthew Speck hit his second successive century as they defeated Morley by seven runs. Speck made 111 and Tosh Baker (62) as Spen made 228-3. Morley lost early wickets but gave Spen a real fright as Rob Smith (71) and Richard Jebb (64no) saw them to an eventual total of 221.

Undercliffe's Ben Heritage was the divisions third century maker. He made 101 as Undercliffe gained maximum points for a 140 run win at Great Horton. Andrew Duckworth (72no) and Yorkshire batsman Chris Taylor (65) carried Undercliffe to a score of 273-2 before dismissing Great Horton for 133 with Chris Greenwood taking five for 25. Jawaid Bashir (42) offered the only resistance.

James Horne hit an unbeaten 85 as Lightcliffe inflicted a second successive defeat on Keighley. Skipper Richard Nichols(47) was the other main scorer as Lightcliffe made 207-8 despite the efforts of Richard Robinson (4-54). Keighley were dismissed for 169 despite a good knock of 66 from Australian Jake Best.

Bowling Old Lane and Idle both notched their first wins and had their captains to thank for setting up their win. Amjad Khan took five for 32 as he and Kamran Siddique (3-31) bowled out Brighouse for 95 to give Old Lane an 89-run win. Young batsman Mubtada Akthar again caught the eye for Old Lane with 51 in their total of 184-8.

Idle captain Greg Pickles was unbeaten on 64 when his side completed a seven-wicket win over Windhill. Opener Graham Dobson (65) had set the tone for the successful run chase after Windhil had been dismissed for 181-6 with Shane Marshall taking three for 53, Tahir Amin (43) and Paul Mosey (41) were the top scorers.
