First team review
It's all set for a great finale in title race and relegation battle

Division One

It's tight at both ends of the table after a dramatic day's cricket with just 32points covering the top five teams and only 28 separating Saltaire in sixth place and second bottom Manningham Mills.

The scene is set for a dramatic finale to the season with every club having something to fight for over the final five weeks of the season.

The biggest surprise came at Jenny Lane where leaders Baildon, anxious to return to winning ways after their defeat by Wrenthorpe in last Sunday's Heavy Woollen Cup final, lost a nail-biting match to lowly Farsley by one-wicket in the final over.

Last man Ryan Lumb struck the winning boundary off the fourth ball of the 54th over to secure victory for his side. The four overs Baildon conceded after being bowled out for 195 in 46 overs proved so costly. They decided the outcome of the match and as a result Baildon also lost the leadership to Bradford & Bingley who beat Saltaire by 149 runs.

West Indian Lorenzo Inghram was in fine form for Farsley. He made a patient 69 as his side countered the twin threat of Andy Walker (3-42) and Mushtaq Ahmed (3-30). It followed a good effort with the ball which saw him rewarded with figures of four for 38 as the Baildon innings tailed off despite the efforts of Ahsan Butt (59no), Ian Philliskirk (44) and Harry Smallwood (33). Paceman James Lee took three wickets in an over to finished with four for 49.

Baildon have dropped to second place on 245 points, one behind Bradford & Bingley who piled up an impressive 302-4 against Saltaire with Scott Etherington (88), Matthew Duce (78) and Phil Slater (75) all capitalising on some loose bowling. Duce struck five sixes and six fours as he made his runs from just 49 balls.

Saltaire were dismissed for 155 in 38 overs with Waleed Akhtar making a breezy 54 off 39 balls. Chris Thompson was the chief destroyer with five for 40 while skipper Phil Slater took three for 12.

East Bierley are just three points behind the new leaders after a 51-run win over a Yeadon side which has plummeted to 11th in the table - just seven points above the relegation zone.

East Bierley had their second team skipper Matthew Anderson to thank for another crucial contribution. He made an unbeaten 49 to steer them to a total of 149-8 which was a lot better than seemed likely when their early order batting crumbled.

Yeadon, who desperately need to halt their run of poor results, lost four quick wickets and never recovered. They were dismissed for just 98 as paceman Mohammad Azharullah took four for 28 and spinner Kez Ahmed (3-32).

Pudsey Congs scored a four-wicket win over their arch-rivals Pudsey St Lawrence which keeps them very much in the title race.

Congs are 32 points adrift of leaders Bradford & Bingley but with fancy their chances as they still have away games to come against East Bierley, Baildon and Bradford & Bingley.

Once again skipper Matthew Doidge mastermind victory over St Lawrence from a tricky position. Doidge made an unbeaten 46 and shared in a decisive sixth-wicket stand of 46 with Glenn Roberts. They took their side to within two runs of victory with a stand of 94 - a win which was duly sealed in the final over when Doidge struck a boundary.

Opener Mark Gill, who batted patiently for his 50, set the platform for Congs as they overhauled the St Lawrence score of 207-7. Opener Mark Robertshaw (87), Chris Marsden (47) and Gareth Clough (37) were the main contributors while paceman Mohammad Naveed (4-72) was the pick of the bowlers.

Manningham Mills boosted their chances of escaping relegation as they recorded a five-wicket win at Cleckheaton. They bowled out the home side for just 60 with Nasser Jamal (4-27), Zeeshan Qasim (3-19) and Adil Islam (3-1) wreaking havoc. Mills had a few nervous moments as Ian Wardlaw claimed three for 26, but eased home to record their sixth win of the season.

The win for Mills puts them 20 points clear of bottom team Hanging Heaton - who didn't have a game - and has intensified the pressure on Yeadon, Gomersal and Cleckheaton who have been sucked into the relegation battle.

Despite their win over Baildon, Farsley are still embroiled in the fight to stay up as are a champions Woodlands despite their six-wicket win at Gomersal.

Former Yorkshire duo Scott Richardson (91no) and Pieter Swanepoel (67) batted patiently to steer their side to a victory which was achieved in the second of the extra overs they gained for dismissing Gomersal for 191 in 47 overs.

Like Baildon, Gomersal paid a heavy price for not batting out their overs. Richard Gould (70) and skipper Richard Whitehurst (47no) fought hard but they lacked effective support as Safraz Ahmed (3-31) and Richard Spittlehouse (3-44) got to work.

The situation is so tight at the bottom that predicting who will go down is proving extremely difficult. Reading down from sixth place Saltaire on 183 points the closeness of the battle can be clearly seen. Cleckheaton (177), Gomersal (176), Farsley (173), Woodlands (163), Yeadon (162), Manningham Mills (155) and Hanging Heaton (135). Gomersal and Hanging Heaton have played one less game than all of their relegation rivals.

Division Two

South African batsman Greg Fotheringham hit an unbeaten 132 as leaders Bankfoot took another step towards promotion by securing maximum points from a 120-run win at Great Horton.

Fotheringham struck seven sixes and eight fours as he dominated his side's innings of 225-5. Great Horton, who have enjoyed a run of success in recent weeks, were dismissed for 105 with left-arm spinner Andrew Deegan taking five for 24.

Bankfoot have 269 points and are 14 ahead of Undercliffe who defeated Spen Victoria by eight wickets. Yorkshire's Chris Taylor continued his good form with 61, while Mark Gilliver hit 60 as Undercliffe passed Spen's total of 149 all out for the loss of just two wickets. Tosh Baker top scored with Spen with 55 as his colleagues struggled against the bowling of Chris Greenwood (3-21), Harry Painter (3-33) and Nawaz Sardar (3-38).

Windhill and Keighley kept themselves in the promotion picture with much-needed wins. Sadaqat Zaman (3-38) and Josh Wheatley (3-32) helped bowl out Hartshead Moor for 138 as Windhill recorded a six-wicket win.

Andy Waggett (57) and Matthew Bottomley(37) steered Keighley to their six-wicket success over Bowling Old Lane. Skipper Amjid Khan (64no) and Mustaba Akhtar (59) had earlier guided Old Lane to a total of 185-8.

Idle skipper Greg Pickles hit six sixes and 11 fours as he made a superb 106 to inspire his side to a 32-run win over Morley. Thanks to Pickles, Idle posted a score of 215-8 despite the determined efforts of Nathan Bromby (5-58)

Morley started their reply well with Danny Lloyd making 48 and Phil Carter (40) before they faltered against the bowling of Kurtis Whippey (3-49), Sonny Matharu (3-36) and Mahmood Rasool (3-50) to finish on 183-9.

Lightcliffe collected 20 points as they defeated Brighouse by 113 runs. Skipper Richard Nichols made 86 and was well supported by Jonathan Wilson (49), James Horne (33) and Umar Salim (30) as Lightcliffe compiled a total of 259-8. Brighouse, whose innings was dominated by 63 from skipper Paul Cummins, were dismissed for 146 with Adil Ladak taking three for 36.
