Division One
Oliver Halliday announced his arrival in the JCT 600 Bradford League in stunning style hitting 156 on his debut for Yeadon in their 166-run win over Pudsey Congs.
After piloting his new side to 258-9, the former Green Lane player then took four wickets as Congs were bowled out for 92. The result was a big disappointment to Congs seamer Liam Stanhope who took seven wickets.
An old hand was the matchwinner for Baildon. Spinner Jamie Abbott turned another game their way with a devastating spell of six for two as Cleckheaton were dismissed for just 64 to seal a 95-run win. Mohammad Abbas (36) and Mohammad Nawaz (34) were the top scorers in Baildon's total of 169 all out. Stuart Houlbrook, a new recruit from Esholt, took four for 58.
Old hands Howard Ellis (60) and Dave Lawrence (43) guided Hanging Heaton to a two-wicket win over Woodlands. Hanging heaton eased past Woodlands' score of 188 all out with three overs to spare. Youngsters Cieran Garner (49), Adam Wood (45) and Tom Smallwood (30) were the main contributors while Chris Goodaire (4-50) was the pick of the bowlers.
Pudsey St Lawrence's new-look side started with a 20 point maximum. Phil Wilson (46), Richard Marsden (43) and Luke Duckitt (38) helped Saints to make 226 all out despite some good bowling from youngsters Joe Greaves (5-49) and Ryan Lumb (3-57). New signing Chris Hester took four for 49 and spinner Adam Hopkins (3-20) as Farsley perished for 142. Greaves completed a good all-round indivual display by making top score of 68.
Morley cam out on the top in the battle of the two newly-promoted clubs. Richard Winn hammeres an unbeaten 61 and new recruit Matthew Green from Spen made 50 as they beat Undercliffe by five wickets. Earlier Ash Daley took six for 39 as Undercliffe were dismissed for 137
Champions East Bierley, who went through the whole of last season unbeaten, started as they mean to carry on with an eight-wicket win over Bowling Old Lane. Liam Walsh made 54 and Tom Owens (51) as they cruised past Old Lane's total of 143 all out.
Division Two
The two relegated sides, Lightcliffe and Spen Victoria, got off to flying starts. Lightcliffe thrashed Idle by 223 runs to claim a maximum 20 points while Spen defeated Great Horton by 70 runs to earn 19 points.
The outstanding individual performance came from Idle's Amir Yaqub. He made a sparkling 121 and with Bruce Lunn making 87, helped Lightcliffe to the day's highest score of 313-8. Idle replied with a miserable 90 all out as veteran Roger Stead took five for 23.
George Deegan made an unbeaten 87 as Spen Victoria made 209-8 on their way to victory at Great Horton.The home side were dismissed for 139 with Robert Warriner taking four for 16 and John Ireland 3-22)
Hartshead Moor produced a shock when they defeated highly-fancied Bradford & Bingley by 43 runs. Hartshead Moor. Trent Otto (35), Louis Brooke (35no) and Andy Halford (33) took Hartshead Moor to a total of 201-8. Bingley were dismissed for 158 despite a battling 46 from Scott Etherington. Halford took three for 25.
Steve Dunn hit an unbeaten 93 to help Saltaire defeat Windhill by 29 runs. Usman Munir 58 was the other main contributor to a total of 247-8 while Danny Maguire (4-83) was the pick of the bowlers. Windhill made a gallant reply but were dismissed for 218 despite the efforts of Joe Ollerenshaw (61)
Manningham Mills demonstrated the power of their batting as they defeated Gomersal by 73 runs. Zafran Ghaffar made 93 and received good support from Adnan Mahmood 69 and Asif Amir 44). Gomersal, despite 66 from Zahir Hussain and 44 from Craig Lightowler were dismissed for 193.
The clash between last season's bottom two went the way of Bankfoot. They defeated Brighouse by two wickets despite a determined all-round performance from Brighouse's Jamie Curtis who top scored with 33 in their total of 140 all out and took four for 37 when Bankfoot replied. Wayne Robinson impressed with the ball for Bankfoot and took four for 20.
