Morley have launched a campaign to build new permanent two-bay training nets in time for the 2010 season. This is a key development for the club, one that will hopefully benefit juniors and seniors for years to come. To get there though they need to raise £4,000 and this will clearly be a big ask in this current climate.
The Junior Section helped get the fundraising underway with a well attended Halloween party and a quiz night followed shortly afterwards. A New Year's Eve Heroes & Villains event has been organised and it has been argued it won’t be too hard to find plenty of villains from its senior playing squads! It is bound to be a great night and at the same time raise lots of money for the new nets.
They have just completed their latest initiative, Out with the old, where by bagging up unwanted old clothes and bedding, the club has been able to raise £230.
Running alongside all this has been the buy a brick campaign. The club is trying to build a wall with donations from players, club members and local businesses. The display is now up in the clubhouse and first team captain Dave Nebard is leading the appeal for people to support the initiative where they can. Bricks are available to purchase from £5 up to £50 and all money will go towards the new nets.
So far, in just six weeks the club has managed to raise £1,300 and with a sponsored walk and other initiatives lined up for the start of 2010 they are optimistic they can reach their target.
If there are any people or businesses who would like to get involved by buying a brick or donating supplies etc they should contact Dave Nebard or Simon Barraclough at the club.
