Group winners to get home advantage

Farsley, Bradford & Bingley, Hanging Heaton and East Bierley will all have home ties in the quarter finals.

Due to delays in the construction work on the installation of the floodlights at Bradford & Bingley's Wagon Lane ground the organising committee has agreed with the competition sponsors for the ties to be played on the grounds of the four group winners.

The semi-finals will still go ahead under the lights at Bradford & Bingley on August 18 and 19 with the final on Thursday, August 20. Those matches will have 8pm starts.

Ian Morrall, managing director of Dyson Insulations said: "The construction work started this week, and the lights will be in place for the semi-finals. It would have been touch and go for thre work to have been completed for the quarter finals so I believe it is sensible to allow the group winners have the right to stage their ties."

The quarter final line up also sees Farsley at home to Cleckheaton, Hanging Heaton entertaining Pudsey St Lawrence, Bradford & Bingley hosting Bankfoot - a repeat of their recent Sovereign Health Care Priestley Cup semi-final, and East Bierley v Yeadon _another repeat of a recent Sovereign Health Care Priestley Cup tie.

Heavy rain washed out the seven matches due to be played on Tuesday night so seven of the quarter finalists are now known. The only match to be played in the final round of fixtures was the one between Yeadon and Saltaire to decide who was runners up to Bradford & Bingley in Group 2.

Yeadon emerged victorious by 19 runs and will now be away to East Bierley in the last eight.

Yeadon made 140-5 in their18 overs with David Leather hitting 43 and Tom Johnston (29). Usman Arshad (37no) was top scorer for Saltaire as they replied with 121-6.

The ties have to be played before August 18 and the host clubs will be responsible for arranging when their game is played. If they do not get agreement from their hosts it will revert to the original date set out in the competition fixture list.

Once clubs have set the date for their tie they must notify chief executive Bob Shackleton so that umpires can be appointed. He said: "We would urge clubs to arrange the ties as soon as possible as the evenings are starting to draw in.

"The clubs are reminded that they cannot play on Sunday, August 9 as that is the day of the Sovereign Health Care Priestley Shield final. I will be emailing each of the competing clubs and I look forward to their co-operation in ensuring the matches are arranged quickly so that umpires can be asssigned to the games.

"We hope that the weather is kind and the host clubs have the opportunity to attract spectators to the matches."
