Skipper James Smith, who by his high standards had a disappointing 2009 season with the bat, showed he means to put matters right this time with a forceful 78 as St Lawrence cruised to their target. Smith hit a six and 11 fours and shared in a second-wicket stand of 110 with Mark Robertshaw (40) while Gareth Clough was unbeaten on 58 when victory was achieved.
East Bierley's much-changed line up scraped a one-wicket win in a low-scoring battle at Yeadon. Victory looked a formality when they dismissed the home side for 88 with left-arm spinner Luke Jarvis taking four for 16 and Mohammad Azharullah 4-37), but Yeadon struck back hard and left-armer Andrew Robertson (5-39) gave them some anxious moments before they scraped home.
Gomersal's Andy Gorrod celebrated his 17th birthday a day late with his maiden Bradford League century but he couldn't save his side from a four-wicket defeat against Saltaire.
Gorrod stroked a six and 14 fours as he made 103 as his side made 231-9 after being put in to bat. Wily skipper Ijaz Khan (3-35) Nadeem Mahommed (3-39) were the pick of the bowlers for Saltaire who are making a habit of winning their opening game.
Gomersal - who were already without star batsman Richard Gould - were further handicapped early in the Saltaire reply when skipper Richard Whitehurst damaged his back and had to leave the field.
Waleed Akhtar showed that he isn't afraid to put bat to ball as he hit a six and nine fours in a brisk 51 before being needlessly run out.
Newcomer Tinishe Gormwe (45) and Yassir Abbas (43) ensured the scoring rate was maintained as Saltaire eased to their target in 44.4 overs.
The day's second century-maker was Pudsey Congs left-hander Mark Gill. He made an unbeaten 109 as his side defeated his former club Cleckheaton by 72 runs.
