King Henry crowns Farsley run chase

arrowFull scorecards arrowShield review

LogoFarsley skipper Chris Henry hit a four off the final ball of the game to clinch a dramatic one-wicket win over Woodlands and a place in the final of the Priestley Cup for the second successive year.

Henry's men will now play Bradford & Bingley, six wicket winners over Cleckheaton in the final at Spen Victoria on Sunday, August 29.

Farsley were indebted to the sixth-wicket pair of Lorenzo Inghram (70) and David Syers (58) who put on 115 as their side chased down a Woodlands score of 266 all out.

Overseas player Inghram hit a six and seven fours, while Syers - playing his last game of the season due to his football commitments - hit five boundaries. It was a great way for him to sign off before starting a trial period with Bradford City.

Farsley’s hopes looked to have gone when Safraz Ahmed (3-42) removed both in the space of four balls in the 45 over, but Joe Greaves (28) kept up the momentum and Henry finished the job in style.

When the last over started Farsley needed ten runs to win with two wickets in hand.

With his main strike bowlers bowled out, Woodlands skipper Pieter Swanepoel gave the responsibility for bowling the last six balls to Sam Frankland.

From the first delivery Frankland bowled Greaves, but Farsley refused to be beaten, Robert Thornton took two runs from the second delivery but failed to score from the third.

Unperturbed, Thornton struck a four from the fourth ball before taking a single from the fifth. It mean skipper Henry had to get three runs from the last ball to win the game.

Henry rose to the challenge and drove the ball to the boundary to spark joyous scenes among the red lane faithful.

Former Yorkshire players Scott Richardson (76) and Pieter Swanepoel (67) were the top scorers in the Woodlands innings. Richardson struck 11 fours while Swanepoel hit two sixes and eight fours. Safraz Ahmed added a brisk 35 before the innings ended while Henry was the pick of the bowlers with three for 42.

Seamer Will Briggs took 5-40 as Bradford & Bingley bowled out Cleckheaton for 184 to set up their six-wicket win. Briggs ripped the heart out the Cleckheaton inngs and prevented them from posting a match-winning score.

Overseas player Ammar Mahmood (52) and opener Marcus Walmsley (40) were the only players to make an impression as Cleckheaton were dismissed in 45.2 overs for 184.

Bradford & BIngley eased to their victory target in 42 overs with slkipper Slater leading the way. His unbeaten 61 included nine boundaries.

Sri Lankan Naveed Gharni (38) and Matthew Duce (35) gave him good support as victory was achieved with eight overs to spare.
