But he would be the first to admit that the man who should take the lion's share of the credit for the victory was left-handed opening batsman Simon Davies.

He made a magnificent 128 - an innings of quality which contained two sixes and 14 fours - as Bradford & Bingley overhauled a Congs total of 293-6.

Congs seem to bring out the best in Bradford & Bingley. Last month Congs suffered a one-wicket defeat at Wagon Lane in the Sovereign Health Care Priestley Cup despite scoring 308-4.

Simon Davies received crucial support from fellow opener Scott Etherington (33) as a sound base was established, then David Clow (35) and John Davies (31no) helped increase the tempo at the right time. Skipper Glenn Roberts (3-82) was the most successful Congs bowler.

The Congs' innings was also dominated by a left-handed opener. Mark Gill made a positive 93 with four sixes and 13 fours. Adam Patel's stylish 78 and a rapid 37 from Eugene Burzler took them to be a fine score of 293-6, but Bradford & Bingley had other ideas.

Congs' second defeat of the season enabled neighbours Pudsey St Lawrence to regain second place after a 59-run win at Cleckheaton.

Once again a left-handed opener was in the thick of the action. In this match it was St Lawrence's Mark Robertshaw. He made a fine 146 from 146 balls with a six and 21 fours as St Lawrence compiled the division's highest score of the day of 304-8.

Alex Stead (78) shared in an opening stand of 160 in 31.3 overs with Robertshaw which gave St Lawrence the perfect platform.

Cleckheaton's young off spinner Edward Walmsley continued his good form by taking five for 58 as St Lawrence lost wickets in the pursuit of quick runs.

Cleckheaton skipper John Wood was determined that his men would make a positive response to the large St Lawrence total. He promoted himself to opener and hammered three sixes and seven fours as he raced to 72 off 69 balls. Ammar Mahmood (34) was also positive but the innings petered as off spinner Steve Watts (5-55) got to work and they finished on 245-9.

St Lawrence now have 167 points and are five adrift of leaders Undercliffe who recorded a comfortable 126-run win over relegation-threatened Yeadon.

All-rounder Shafiq Choudhry continued his good form by making the top score of 84 as Undercliffe again recovered from a sluggish start to post a total of 243-5. Overseas player Nawaz Sardar again made a valuable contribution to his team's cause with an unbeaten 60, while Ashley Metcalfe made 42no. Choudhry then followed up by taking seven for 18 with his left-arm spin as Yeadon were dismissed for 117

Surprisingly, Choudhry's figures weren't the best of the day. Baildon skipper Ian Philliskirk took eight for 42 - the best figures in Division One this season - as the champions beat Bankfoot by five wickets.

Bankfoot looked to be building a formidable score as Andrew Duckworth (81) and Greg Fotheringham (51) shared a second-wicket stand of 120, but then Philliskirk turned the game around as Bankfoot were dismissed for 217.

Baildon eased to their target with Jonny Reynolds (75), Simon Webb (62), and Shane Gadsdon (31), steering them home.

Gomersal opener Richard Gould hit his second successive century but could not spare his side from a 63-run defeat at Woodlands.

Gould hit three sixes and 13 fours but nobody else apart from Shahzaib Khan (36) made an impression as Gomersal finished on 200-7 in reply to Woodlands' total of 263-6. Spinner Chris Brice (3-67) was again the pick of the bowlers,

He was also the best of the batsmen with a typically pugnacious 84. He shared in a fourth-wicket stand of 143 with Dan Shuffe (75) as Woodlands built on the positive start they were given by Scott Richardson (54) as they posted a total of 263-6. Shahzaib Khan (3-78) was Gomersal's most successful bowler.

East Bierley Gavin Hamilton, who gave up the Scotland captaincy last week, marked his return to league action with 123 as his side pipped Farsley by eight runs at Red Lane. Hamilton struck three sixes and nine fours and gained support from former Yorkshire wicketkeeper Ismail Dawood (52) and Mohammad Azharullah (30no) as Bierley made 253 all out.

Spinners Lorenzo Ingram (3-62) and Joe Greaves (3-69) were the best of the Farsley bowlers and pegged back the visitors when it seemed they would make a bigger score.

When Farsley replied, former Bierley player Steve Simpson (47), Tom Slater (45no), Harry Anderson (43) and James Lee (43) all made useful contributions but East Bierley kept plugging away and restricted the hoem side to 245-9 with spinner Greg Wood taking four for 78.

Windhill's batsmen went on the rampage as they put a dent in Hartshead Moor's promotion hopes.

Ahsan Butt and Ayyuz Akram both made centuries as Windhill piled up a score of 318-4 before dismissing Hartshead Moor for 225 to seal a 93-run win.

Butt made 126 - his second successive century - with the aid of six sixes and 12 fours, while Akram made 122 not out - an innings containing nine sixes and seven fours. Fahid Rehman (45) was the other main contributor.

Hartshead Moor made a spirited reply and had the consolation of picking up maximum batting points as they were dismissed for 225. Graham Hilton (60), Jonathan Gould (41) and Liam Evans (38) all battled hard against a bowling attack spearheaded by Arsalan Ijaz (5-62)

Leaders Hanging Heaton took another step towards promotion with a comfortable 51-run success against Brighouse. Rob McFarlane (69) and Haroon Rashid (48) helped Hanging Heaton to a score of 227-7.

Brighouse skipper Paul Cummins took three for 64 with his off spin and then top scored with 65 in his side's reply of 176-8.

Hanging Heaton are 33 points ahead of second=placed Lightcliffe who recorded a 72-run win at Great Horton.

Chris taylor top scored with 59 as Lightcliffe made 183-9 in the face of some good bowling from the promising Raheel Ahmed (4-38). Ahmed was also top scorer with 30 as Great Horton wilted against the bowling of Sadaqat Zaman (5-40) and were bowled out for 111.

Bowling Old Lane's young pace bowler Mubtaba Akhtar took six for 54 as they bowled out Spen Victoria for 208 to clinch a 66-run win. Tosh Baker (77) top scored for Spen and was also their most successful bowler with four for 88 when Old Lane reached 274-7 batting first.

Old Lane's total was built around solid contributions from Raqeeb Younis (57), Rashid Ramzan (47), Akhtar (47), and Eshan Garni (40).

Manningham Mills'faltering promotion push suffered another setback when they went down by five-wickets at Morley.

Jason Wilson (4-28) and skipper Dave Nebard (3-34) capitalised on some indifferent Mills batting as the visitors were dismissed for 138. Morley took their time and ensured thet secured a comfortable win with 14-year-old James McNichol making an unbeaten 48 and Neil Johnson (35).

Keighley took advantage of Mills' slip up by moving into fifth place with a 27-run win over lowly Idle. Imran Patel marked his return to form with 85 for Keighley. Teenage bowler Tom Johnson (3-51) and Nasser Chowdrey (3-25) were the best of the bowlers.

Phil Sharples made an unbeaten 47 for Idle but it wasn't sufficient to save them from defeat. Paul Quinlan took three for 59 for Keighley.
