It has to be one of the most dramatic days in the history of the competition.

The bare statistics are worthy of serious consideration. A staggering 3,805 runs were scored in eight ties.

Five teams scored totals of over 300 and two chased down scores in excess of 300 to win.

To crown a magnificent day's cricket eight batsmen scored centuries with former Yorkshire opener Ashley Metcalfe hitting a stunning 179 in Undercliffe's 104-run win over Lightcliffe.

There were also two outstandiong bowling feats. East Bierley's wicketkeeper turned bowler Greg Wood took seven for 51 in their 75-run win over Pudsey St Lawrence and Cleckheaton's overseas player Ammer Mahmood took a hat-trick in the five-wicket win over Bankfoot.

For drama the place to be was Wagon Lane. Bradford & Bingley's last wicket pair of Rob Walker and Will Briggs eeked out 17 runs in the final five overs to earn their side a one-wicket win over Pudsey Congs with one ball to spare.

Congs, the most successful cup side in recent years. must have felt confident of success as Babar Butt (112no) and Adam Patel (108) carried them to a total of 308-4. Butt hit three sixes and 14 fours while Patel stroked seven sixes and eight fours as Congs

A Bradford & Bingley victory looked unlikely when they were 125-5, but Matthew Duce (96) and David Clow (75) had other ideas. Duce hammered two sixes and 12 fours while Clow struck three sixes and six fours during a sixth wicket stand of 177 which turned the game around.

Congs, as ever, battled to the end with skipper Glenn Roberts (3-26), Eugene Burzler (3-47) and Babar Butt (3-66) sharing the wickets, but last wicket pair Rob Walker (21no) and Will Briggs (3no) kept their nerve to see their side home.

The unluckiest player of the second round has to be Hartshead Moor's opener Craig Field. he made a stunning 172 not out for the Division Two side at Farsley and ended up on the losing side.

Field struck 26 fours and helped his side to post an impressive score of 314-9 . He shared a fourth-wicket stand of 130 with Matthew Evans (58) while left-arm spinner Lorenzo Ingram (3-42) was the pick of the bowlers.

Jamaican Ingram followed up by making an unbeaten 106 to break Hartshead Moor's hearts. Ingram hammered three sixes and seven fours as he and David Syers (77) masterminded a dramatic Farsley run chase which saw them win by five wickets with seven balls to spare.

Former Farsley player Ashley Metcalfe made the day's highest individual score, Six sixes and 20 fours flowed from his bat as he made a superb 179 which enabled Undercliffe to post a total of 298-4 on their way to a 104-run win over Lightcliffe.

Ben Heritage (48) and Tabbi Bhatti (40) also added valuable runs as Undercliffe extended their winning run to four matches.

Lightcliffe's reply was dominated by former Undercliffe and Yorkshire player Chris Taylor. He made an unbeaten 101 as his side made 194 all out. Taylor, who also scored a century in the first round, hit a six and 12 fours.

Woodlands were the fifth side to top 300. They made 337-9 as they defeated Gomersal by 64 runs. It was the second time in successive days that they topped 300 at Oxford Road which is earning a reputation as a batsman's paradise.

Such a score seemed highly unlikely when Woodlands stumbled to 75-5 and when Adam Wood (65) was out at 128-6 they looked likely to be dismissed for less than 200.

But skipper Pieter Swanepoel (86) and Usman Afzal (55) upped the tempo with a sixth-wicket stand of 127. Swanepoel smashed five sixes and ten fours, while former Gomersal player Salim hit two sixes and eight fours.

Their efforts were made to look positively sedate as Safraz Ahmed launched a blistering late assault which brought him a half-century off just 15 balls. He hammered seven big sixes and one four.

Gomersal made a spirited 273 all out in reply thanks to another good knock of 54 from Andy Gorrod and useful contributions from skipper Richard Whitehurst (46), Adam Greenwood (44) and Ben Platt (37).

Two wicketkeeper masterminded East Bierley's 75-run win over Pudsey St Lawrence - and neither was wearing the keeper's gantlets,

Derbyshire stumper Lee Goddard made and unbeaten 131 to ensure that East Bierley's patched up side posted 268-6. Goddard hit four sixes and 15 fours and along with Uzair Mahomed (42) dominated the bowling.

When St Lawrence replied, James Smith (67) and Alex Stead (55) looked to be taking the league leaders into a challenging position until Wood stepped in and continued his recent run of success as a bowler by taking seven for 51,

Saltaire's new opener Tim Jackson showed little mercy for injury-hit Windhill. He made an impressive 137 which helped his side secure a quarter-final spot with a 242-run win. Jackson's innings contained 27 fours Windhill's most successful bowler was former Saltaire player Awais Ejaz (3-22).

The ten-men of Windhill were dismissed for the day's lowest score of 32 as Yassir Abass took five for 11 and Nadeem Mahomed (4 -16).

Cleckheaton continued their winning run with a five-wicket success over Bankfoot. Former Bankfoot opener Marcus Walmsley made 69 and overseas player Ammer Mahmood (60) as Cleckheaton overcame a Bankfoot score of 186-9.

Bankfoot, despite the efforts of Greg Fotheringham (37), Andrew Duckworth (34) and Micky Hutchins (33)were restricted to 185-9 by Mahmood (4-35) and former Bankfoot off spinner Edward Walmsley (3-35). Mahmood also had the distinction of taking a hat-trick as he dismissed Murphy Walwyn, Micky Hutchins and Greg Colehan from successive deliveries.

Division Two leaders Hanging Heaton reached the last eight with a comfortable 61-run win over Bowling Old Lane. Mark Lawson (41), James Stansfield (41) and Alan Mynett (39) helped Hanging Heaton to make 187 before bowling out Old Lane for 126 with Rob McFarlane and Harvey Anderson each taking three for 27. Rashid Ramzan (46) was Old Lane's top scorer.
