Spin king Abbott turns game for Baildon

Division One

Spinner Jamie Abbott took six for 38 as Baildon maintained their 100 per cent start to the season with a thrilling three-run win over champions Pudsey St Lawrence.

Abbott's bowling led to St Lawrence,being dismissed for 172 despite 73 from Phil Wilson,

Baildon had earlier made 175 all out with Ross Todd hitting 50 and recent recruit Afzal Ka]han (36)

Baildon now occupy fourth place, 20 points behind leaders Lightcliffe but with a game in hand.

Lightcliffe maintained their fine start since winning the Division Two championship last season. They pile up a massive 292-6 against faltering East Bierley.

David Knight (67), Steve Hartley (54), Rob Crookes (39), Gareth Stevens (38no) and James Shaw (30) all handed out punishment to the East Bierley attack. Skipper John Davis was the pick of the bowlers with three for 56.

Morley's youngsters continue to impress. This week it was the turn of 14-year-old Jack Seddon to take the limelight with an innings of 75 which helped them to a five-wicket win over Cleckheaton.

Seddon was backed up by big-hitting Richard Winn (54no) as Morley overhauled Cleckheaton's score of 189 all out with 5.5 overs to spare. The result keeps Morley in second place, nine points adrift of Lightcliffe. James Marshall (55) and Jamie Robinson were the pick of the Cleckheaton batsmen while Spencer Horsfall (3-35) and Liam Fynn (3-35) were the most successful bowlers.

Third-placed Bowling Old Lane proved too good for Bradford & Bingley. Old Lane chase down their rivals score of 161 all out in 27.4 overs for the loss of eight wickets. Mahmood Farooqi (40) and Talat Sajawal (30no) steered their side to victory despite the efforts of Richard Slater (5-55).

Warren Allitt (44) and Adam Swallow (37no) were Bingley's main contributors in the face of some good bowling from Haseeb Younis (5-30) and Talat Sajawal (3-35).

Pudsey Congs are rooted to the bottom after their eight-wicket defeat by Woodlands.

Teenage batsman Scott Richardson (70no) and Zahir Hussain (52) sped Woodlands past the Pudsey Congs score of 165 in just 29 overs,

Andre Stolarski (43no), Ijaz Ahmed (40) and Keegan Moodley (32) were the top scores for Congs who found it hard to make headway against the bowling of Phil Walker (3-33) and Richard Medcalf (3-7).

Yeadon finally recorded their first win as they defeated Farsley by 63 runs. Jonathan Carey's 58 helped Yeadon make 200-9 before dismissing their rivals for 137.

Division Two

Hartshead Moor were a team in a hurry as they defeated Brighouse by nine wickets. They dismissed their rivals for just 47 with Martin Riley taking six for 27. Trent Otto hit 33 to speed Hartshead Moor to their target in just six overs.

Windhill are second after defeating Saltaire by five wickets. Danny Maguire took four for 28 as Saltaire were bowled out of 133, then Andrew Evans hit 51 as Windhill eased to victory.

Two more sides who wasted little time in completing victories were Bankfoot and Spen Victoria.

Bankfoot dismissed Manningham Mills for just 81 with Wayne Robinson taking five for 12. Waleed Khan battled hard for 31 but had no support. James Holdsworth then hit an unbeaten 46 to see Bankfoot home.

Fezal Rajput took four for 18 as Spen Victoria dismissed early-season leaders Great Horton for 102. Anees Rawat (58no) and George Deegan (43no) saw Spen to their target.

Third-placed Gomersal were too strong for Idle. James Tolson (39) and , Dave Hilton (34) helped Gomersal to 161-7 before skittling Idle for 52 to secure a 109-run win. Ryan Kitson (5-21) and Josh Fell (4-17) were the pick of the bowlers.

Sam Brooks made 71 to help Undercliffe defeat Keighley by 47 runs. Zarek Khan (37) gave him good support. Keighley were dismissed for 141 despite the efforts of Waris Ismail and Alex Towler who each made 30.
