John Carruthers has returned to Hanging Heaton as a new era dawns for the Batley club.
Carruthers spent 14 years at Hanging Heaton, during which time they became a dominant force in the JCT600 Bradford League before he moved to Central Yorkshire League side Birstall.
Carruthers takes over from Graham Ford as cricket chairman, while he will also act as first team captain.
Carruthers led Birstall to the Central Yorkshire League Premier Division title in 2008 and he has acted swiftly to bring in three new signings to the Bennett Lane club.
Hard-hitting opening batsman Rob McFarlane - who had spells at Pudsey Congs and Keighley earlier in his career - has joined from Birstall, along with all-rounder Nick Bresnan - brother of England international Tim.
Opening batsman Harvey Anderson, who started last season at Farsley before moving to Central Yorkshire League side Mirfield Parish Cavaliers, has returned to his 'home' club and he will also be heavily involved in coaching the junior teams.
Heaton are planning a number of fundraising events, including a golf day in the summer and anyone interested in entering a team can get in touch with the club.
Hanging Heaton are holding a family race night on Saturday January 30. The first race starts at 7pm, everybody is welcome and entry is free. |
