Tributes are being paid to Pudsey St Lawrence stalwart Tony Moore who died today after a long fight against cancer.
Tony, the 2008 winner of the Sir Leonard Hutton Trophy for outstanding service to the league, was a tireless worker for his club.
He served as club secretary for many years and filled numerous other roles including press-officer and scorer to names just a couple.
League president Keith Moss, who worked closely with Tony for many years on the Tofts Road committee said: "This is extremely sad news because we have lost a wonderful servant to club and league."
He added: "Tony fought the bravest of brave fights against cancer. He made light of his condition and was always remarkable cheerful.
"I am immensely grateful that I was able to present him with the Sir Leonard Hutton Award in 2008. It meant a great deal to Tony and it was a richly deserved accolade.
"He was a very proud man that night and he was a very deserving winner of the award. He will be sorely missed particularly at Pudsey St Lawrence but also around the league."
League Chief Executive Bob Shackleton also paid tribute to Moore. He said: "Nothing was too much trouble for Tony. He would always volunteer to help out and he was somebody you could always rely on. I always appreciated his assistance."
Tony leaves a wife Margaret and two sons. Details of his funeral have yet to be finalised although it is expected to take place at Cottingley on Friday, February 5. |
