Unbeaten Congs make it three out of three
Posted: May 24, 2010

Pudsey Congs took full advantage of their first hoem double header recording wins over Lightcliffe and Farsley.

It means they now have a maximum 12 points from their opening three fixtures and are looking strong bets to make the quarter-finals for the first time.

Former Farsley player Gareth Phillips was the star of the show as they beat his old club by five wickets and Lightcliffe by 28 runs.

Phillips made 64 asCongs chased down a Farsley total of 152-7 with five balls to spare. He also took three for 29 to keep the visitors in check after a harf-hit 60 from young Joe Greaves and 32 from Barry Franland. The most economical bowler was Callum Oliver with three for 25.

Congs batted first against Lightcliffe and made 183-6 with Phillips and Oliver again leading the way. Phillips hit his second half-century of the afternoon as he made 81 while Oliver made 48.

Jonathan Wilson led the Lightcliffe reply but the steady loss of wickets curbed their run rate and they finished on 155-9. Phillips rounded off a good afternoon's work by taking three for 29.
