Bradford & Bingley and Mills in record-breaking game
Posted: June 22, 2010

Bradford & Bingley scored a thrilling two-wicket Group One win at Manningham Mills in a game which produced a competition record match aggregate of 443 runs.

Mills set the tone for an exciting encounter by making 220-3 in their 20 overs, but Bradford & Bingley responded with 223-8, Matthew Cockshott hitting the winning runs from the fifth ball of the final over.

It capped a remarkable run chase in which David Clow blasted 66 and Matthew Duce (56) after Sri Lankan Naveed Gharni gave the innings a swift start with 31.

Both Clow and Duce hit four sixes and five fours, but the match was in the balance after Zeeshan Qasim took four for 24 to leave Bradford & Bingley needing 11 from the final over to win with three wickets in hand.

Second teamer Andrew Clarke failed to score from the first ball from Gulsheraz Ahmed before taking two from the second. The third was another dot ball before Clarke hit a no ball over midwicket for six.

That gave him a free hit but he failed to capitalise and even managed to get run out trying to run a suicidal single to the bowler.

That put Matthew Cockshott on strike and with the field closing in he drove an over-pitched delivery straight for four to give Bradford & Bingley.

Defeat was tough on Mills because they had contributed greatly to an entertaining encounter.

Their total of 220 was the result of some aggressive batting. Mohammad Altaf (74), Gulsheraz Ahmed (69no), Ravi Teja (41) and Iqbal Khan (30) all played well.

Gulsheraz hit six sixes, Altaf (3) and Teja (2) as some indifferent Bradford & Bingley bowling was punished.

Hanging Heaton went to the top of Group Two as they defeated Hartshead Moor by 14 runs.

James Stansfield was the key man for Hanging Heaton as he hit an unbeaten 89 in a total of 178-7. Joel Pollard (3-37) was the best Hartshead Moor bowler.

Hartshead Moor made a spirited reply with Danny Squire making 56 and Tom Manvell (34) but the regular loss of wickets to James Byrne (3-27) and Imran Dawood (3-40) saw them dismissed for 164.

East Bierley also have eight points after a seven-wicket home win over Morley.

The visitors were restricted to 125-8 as Muhammad Azharullah took three for 21. East Bierley eased to victory with an over to spell with Greg Wood making 63.

Cleckheaton registered their first win as they defeated Brighouse by 52 runs. Edward Walmsley top scored with 50 as Cleckheaton were dismissed for 142 as Greg Osbourne took four for 24 and Kamran Khan (3-18).

Brighouse struggled against the bowling of Shahid Rehman (3-20) and Ian Wardlaw (3-23) and were bowled out for 90 in 16 overs
