Seventeen clubs to contest 2010 competition
Posted: December 20

Seventeen clubs will contest the 2010 Dyson Insulation Twenty/20 Cup - a reduction of three on last year.

Ten of the teams will be divided in to two groups playing on Tuesday evenings and the remaining seven will be in one group playing all their matches on Sundays.

Bradford & Bingley, Keighley, Manningham Mills and Yeadon will form Group One. The teams will play each other home and away with the top two qualifying for the quarter-finals.

Group Two will consist of six teams, Brighouse, Cleckheaton, East Bierley, Hanging Heaton, Hartshead Moor and Morley. Each teams will play four of their rivals one and one team twice to give them a total of six matches - the smae as Group One. The top three teams will qualify for the quarter finals.

Holders Pudsey St Lawrence are in Group Three - where all the matches will be played on Sundays - along with Bankfoot, Farsley, Gomersal, Lightcliffe, Pudsey Congs and Spen Victoria.

The teams will play each other once and the top three teams will qualify for the quarter finals.

The only rule changes from last season relate to the bowling of wides and no balls. In the inaugural event clubs felt there was an inconsistent interpretation of legside wides. This time umpires will be directed to adopt the Sovereign Health Care Priestley Cup interpretation where all balls passing down the legside without hitting the batsman's bat or person will be called wide.

Last year all wides and no balls incurred a two run penalty and there was no extra ball. This time the all wides and no balls will incure a one-run penalty and an extra ball will be bowled. In the case of a front foot no ball the extra delivery will be a free hit.

The full fixture list be circulated to the competing clubs shortly. The arrangements for the knockout stages will be confirmed at that time.

The three clubs who competed in the initial competition but have declined to enter this time are Baildon, Idle and Saltaire.
