Division One
It’s all change at the top of Division One with Bradford & Bingley taking over the leadership after both Farsley and Pudsey St Lawrence saw their unbeaten runs ended on a day when rain made its first appearance of the summer causing delayed starts and reduced overs games everywhere.
While Bradford & Bingley were defeating Gomersal by 38 runs, Farsley were going down the same margin at Woodlands and St Lawrence were spinning to a 37-run loss at Hanging Heaton.
It means that Bradford & Bingley are two points ahead of Hanging Heaton who are in turn two points in front of both Farsley and St Lawrence.
The most dramatic game was at Bennett Lane where St Lawrence lost their last nine wickets for just 35 runs as they capitulated from 112-1 to 147 all out in reply to Hanging Heaton’s 184 all out. Spinners Umar Rehman (6-18) and Mark Lawson (3-39) were the men who did the damage after St Lawrence looked in control thanks to openers Mark Robertshaw (40) and Adam Waite (38).
The Hanging Heaton total owed much to the efforts of James Stansfield (38) and Mark Lawson (32) who had to contend with some good bowling from Gareth Clough 3-22, David Stiff 3-49
Woodlands skipper Pieter Swanepoel became the first bowler to dismiss Farsley’s Jamaican batsman Lorenzo Ingram this season during a match-winning spell of 5-24. Ingram, who had made 368 runs in his previous three innings, was out for just one. Swanepoel was well supported by left-arm spinner Chris Brice (3-54) as Farsley were bowled out for 101.
Woodlands had been made to fight hard for runs when they batted first. Simon Mason (37) made his highest score since joining the club from York, but his side struggled against the left-arm spin of Ingram (4-21) and a total of 139 looked meagre until Swanepoel and Brice went to work.
Skipper Phil Slater led from the front as Bradford & Bingley collected a maximum 20 points against Gomersal at Wagon Lane. He struck three sixes and 12 fours in an unbeaten 103 as his side posted the day’s highest score of 304-4. Chris Thompson hit five sixes and five fours in a typically robust knock of 63 not out as he shared in an unbroken fifth-wicket stand of 131 with Slater. Opener Simon Davies followed up his century against Undercliffe last week with 59.
Gomersal, who had won their previous two matches, replied with 265. Former Farsley batsman Shabbir Rashid led the way with 84, while Ben Platt (53) also made a half-century, while
David Clow (3-48), and James Davies (3-52) were the pick of the Bradford & Bingley bowlers.

Cleckheaton climbed off the bottom of the table as they defeated Undercliffe by seven wickets – a result that leaves the Intake Road club propping up Division One. Tim Jackson, a close season recruit from Saltaire, hit 73 not out as he shared in an unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 103 with Ian Nicholson (43no) which enabled their side to overhaul the Undercliffe total of 191-5 which included a knock of 52 from former Yorkshire batsman Ashley Metcalfe. Matthew Bottomley (39), Nawaz Sardar (38) and Ben Heritage (34) were the other main contributors.
Champions Pudsey Congs returned to winning ways after two successive defeats by beating Manningham Mills by 26 runs. Paceman Muhammad Naved (4-52) and left-arm spinner Glenn Roberts (4-38) did the damage as Mills slipped from a promising 128-2, to 190 all out. Gulsheraz Ahmed, who hit two sixes and 11 fours in his 68, and overseas professional Imran Khalid (64) shared a third-wicket stand of 116, but once they were parted Congs took control to successfully defend their total of 216-6. New opener Josh Atkinson (62) and skipper Andrew Bairstow (59) were the men who impressed with the bat for Congs.
East Bierley were another side to half a two-match losing sequence as they defeated Baildon by six wickets. Opener Gharib Razak (64no) and Thomas Owens (56no) led the successful pursuit of Baildon’s total of 186-5. Tabbi Bhatti (76no) and Harry Smallwood (42no) were the pick of the Baildon batsmen.

beat Yeadon by one wicket with one ball to spare in another close encounter at Roberts Park.
Last Saturday they were involved in a tie with Bowling Old Lane and a similar result Leaders until newcomer Richard Spry hit the winning run off the fifth ball of the final over from Mahmood Rasool to edge Saltaire past the Yeadon total of 175-8 which was built around the contributions of James Todd (41) and Kassir Maroof (33)
Saltaire had needed five runs from the final over to win and Spry and skipper Ijaz Khan,. who had come together at 164-9, ensured that objective was achieved to keep their side two points ahead of Lightcliffe.
Sanjaya Kodimarakkalage (36), Fahid Rehman (33) and Javed Umarji (30) were the top scorers for Saltaire, while paceman Brett Kinsey (3-60) produced his best figures since joining Yeadon from Baildon.
Lightcliffe had a convincing 101-run win at Bowling Old Lane. Openers Chris Taylor (83) and Josh Wheatley (63) shared a first-wicket stand of 149 as Lightcliffe made 188-4 before restricting Old Llane to 87-9. Wheatley completed a fine all-round performance by taking 4-25 as he and Evan Edwards (3-11) kept the home side under pressure.
Morley’s unbeaten was shattered as Spen Victoria openers Nicky Rushworth (82no) and Peter Jackson (50no) shared an unbroken stand of 143 to steer their side to a ten-wicket win at Scatcherd Lane.
Former Woodlands stalwart Rushworth struck 11 fours while Jackson hit six boundaries as they tore into the Morley attack and steered their side past the Morley total of 142-7 with 8.2 overs to spare. Overseas player Kashif Naveed (39) was the pick of the Morley batsmen, while the former Hartshead Moor duo of Craig Woodhead (3-41) and Joel Pollard (3-43) were the key bowlers for Spen Victoria..
