The past two winners of the Sovereign Health Care Priestley Cup will meet in a mouth-watering quarter-final tie.
The third round draw gave the 2009 winners East Bierley home advantage against the current holders Bradford & Bingley on Sunday, June 19,
There’s also a cracking tie in prospect at Moorend where Cleckheaton - the only team in the last eight never to have lifted the trophy -will take on the 2006 cup winners Woodlands.
There may be a pointer towards the likely outcome of that clash when the two teams meet in a JCT600 Bradford League Division One fixture this Saturday at Albert Terrace.
Idle, the only Division Two side left in the competition, have been rewarded with an attractive home tie against Pudsey St Lawrence which should attract a bumper crowd to Cavendish Road,
While the remaining tie sees Pudsey Congs, winners five times since 2002, facing a tricky trip to Scotchman Road to play Division One new boys Manningham Mills.
East Bierley and Bradford & Bingley met at the same stage of last season’s competition with Bradford & Bingley winning by 40 runs, but their skipper Phil Slater knows his side can expect a tough test.
On being told of the draw Slater said: “These are the sorts of games you want to play in as a player. Both teams have strong line ups and it should be a great contest,
“If we want to win the cup we know we have to play and beat sides like East Bierley. On our way to last year’s final we had to beat East Bierley, Pudsey Congs and Cleckheaton so taking on the top teams isn’t a worry for us.”
By a quirk of the fixture list, the two sides will meet in a Division One fixture at Wagon Lane 24 hours before the cup encounter.
