Wrenthorpe beat Holders in first round thriller

Wrenthorpe defeated Black Sheep Yorkshire Champions Trophy holders Scholes (Huddersfield) League by two-runs in a high-scoring first round clash.

The reward for the Solly Sports Central Yorkshire League champions is a semi-final visit to Yorkshire League champions York.

Wrenthorpe's free-scoring batsmen compiled a total of 309-7 with Luke Patel (71), Eric Austin (57) and Gary Fellows (55) leading the way.

Scholes were in no mood to surrender meekly and their talented teenage batsmen Tom Boorman and Tom Brooke almost fashioned an amazing win.

Sixteen-year-old Boorman made a splendid 110 while 18-year-old Brooke hit an unnbeaten 82 from 71 balls.

South Yorkshire League champions Whitley Hall will visit the JCT600 Bradford League champions Pudsey Congs in the semi-finals after beating Drakes Huddersfield League champions Honley by two wickets.

Jack Castle hit 31 off 13 balls as Whitley Hall overhauled a Honley score of 175. Jim Tinsley (37) and Alex Welsh (31) were the other major contributors . Joe Greaves made 43 for Honley and Richard Jakeman (36) while Tom Fletcher took 3-20 for Whitley Hall.

Pudsey Congs secured their place in the last four with an emphatic 132-win away to the York Senior League champions Dunnington.

Congs put the game beyond the reach of their opponents as they compiled a total of 336-7 in their 50 overs. Josh Atkinson led the way with 78 while the experienced Babar Butt chipped in with 53.

Dunnington made 204-9 in reply with Adam Iyer making 69 and Dave Johnson (60). Alex Heitt was the best of the Congs bowlers with 3-44.

in the other quarter-final played today, 2009 winners York dwarfed even Congs' impressive total. They made 413-9 as they inflicted a 285-run defeat on Aire-Wharfe champions Burley-in-Wharfedale.

Duncan Snell led the scoring spree with a magnificent 182, while Oliver Hairs piled on further agong for Burley with a superb 138. The two batsmen shared a mammoth second-wicket stand of 292 with Snell hitting nine sixes and 20 fours, whille Hairs struck four sixes and 18 fours.

Burley could only muster 128 in reply with Ryan Cooper (47) their top scoreras Jake Murphy took 5-45 and Daniel Woods (3-27).
