The JCT600 Bradford League is introducing on-line registration for the 2011 season and has arranged a programme of information sessions for clubs
These will be held at five different venues over the next two weeks and will explain to clubs how on-line registration will work.
The system has been devised by the Western District Cricket Union in Scotland and was used for the first time in the 2010 season.
The league Management Board has been looking for some time at ways of improving the registration of players and belies the on-line solution will prove to be a winner.
Some of the basics of the new system
1 ALL players will have to complete Section A of the new league registration document and supply a passport size picture. Players under 18 on August 31, 2010 will have to complete a form but will not have to supply a picture. The forms and pictures will be returned by the players to the clubs they wish to play for in time for them to be registered for the new season.
2 Players transfering from another club will have to complete sections A and B of the registration document and get it signed by their previous club. The league will accept any transfer forms already submitted but the players involved will still have to complete section A of the registration document and supply a picture.
3 Clubs will be responsible for making sure that all players they wish to register complete the necessary registration form and supply a picture of themselves. They will be responsible for keeping the documents and providing them for inspection when required by the league.
4 Each club will have access to the registration website and will be responsible for registering the players on line and uploading the pictures. Each request will be considerered by the league's Registration Manager Bob Shackleton who will approve or reject the registration. In either case the club will receive an email. No player can play until his club have received an email confirming his registration.
5 On the registration website it will be possible to view the name, picture, club, registration number and date registered of every player. Details of under-18s will appear without a picture. Only players whose registration has been approved will be able to play.
6 It will now be possible to accept registrations up to 48 hours before a game instead of the current seven days.
Alan Birkinshaw, who has been working with the Western District Cricket Union to establish the new registration system said: "The great beauty of the system is the fact that it is very user-friendly and the on-line registration process is extremely easy to operate.
"There will obviously be a lot of initial work setting up the system, but once it is established it will save hours of administrative time for club officials and league officers.
"It is also good to have a system which is essentially operated by the clubs and enables them to police the playing field on which they participate.
"The system proved to be robust, secure and popular with the clubs of the Western District Cricket Union when it was introduced last year and we will be working with our clubs to assist the transition to the new system. We will be offering support throughout the process.
"We believe that the new registration system meets the demands of the 21st century and will further enhance our standing as an innovative and progressive league."
