Congs march on in Black Sheep

Twenty-four hours after taking four wickets each to bowl Pudsey Congs to a two-run league win over East Bierley, Scott Cunningham and Matthew Doidge turned batting heroes in the Black Sheep Champions Trophy.

Cunningham made 61 and Doidge (60) as the Congs secured a 32 run win over the Drakes Huddersfield League champions Honley.

Skipper Babar Butt also chipped in with an unbeaten 38 as Congs set a total their opponents just could not match.

Honley tried to force the pace but were kept in check by Mark Bray who took four for 35 to help clinch his side a second round away tie against the Bradford Central League champions Norwood Green who have been elected to the JCT 600 Bradford League for the 2008 season.

In the only other outstanding first round tie, Kirkstall Educational, champions of the Aire-Wharfe, beat Halifax League title holder Bradshaw by seven wickets. Kirkstall will now vist JCT 600 Bradford League champions and current Black Sheep holders Woodlands.
