HW6 Player Qualification

A Only bona fide members of the club within its designated Saturday League, and registered as a player with that league prior to the club's participation in the competition during the current season, shall qualify. Club contacts shall send to the secretary a list of players to arrive not later than the Tuesday prior to the scheduled date of the first round.

B Subsequent registrations may be made, in writing to the secretary. All players should have represented their club under the control of their designated league a minimum of three times in the current season before the semi-final stage.

C Only player who is designated a Non Eu player, under current ECB regulations, shall be submitted in the club's list of players. The current player qualifications criteria for this rule is shown in the Appendix to these rules.

D No player shall play in the competition for more than one club in the same season.

E Without prior permission of the Management no player shall play for his club in the same round of this competitions and the Crowther Cup.

F Junior players aged 17 or under who have not played in senior cricket shall be entitled to play for a club without playing in the qualifying number of matches. Such players are not required to register as per rule HW6(a) but the result sheet, see Rule HW7(n) must be endorsed stating the player is aged 17 or under.

G Any player not registered shall be ineligible to play in the competition. Should any part of the rule be contravened the club concerned shall forfeit the tie, which shall be awarded to its opponents.

Appendix

Player qualification criteria - country of origin

A In all cases of qualification the burden of proof lies with a member club and specifically the player. The Management reserve the right to apply rule HW6 (h) should there be any doubts about such proof.

B EU Player - no registration restriction - see rule HW6(a). To qualify to play as an EU player the person must meet one of the following four criteria. He must:-

1 Hold a birth certificate stating that his place of birth is within the EU or

2 Have a father or mother born within the EU and have himself been permanently resident in an EU country for the preceding four consecutive years or

3 Be aged 15 years or under and have been permanently resident within the EU for the preceding four consecutive years or

4 Have been permanently resident in an EU country for the preceding seven consecutive years and hold documentary proof from the Home Office or an EU country equivalent, that he may remain in the EU without any time restriction.

C Non EU Player -registration restriction - see rule HW6(c)

To qualify as a non EU player one of the following three criteria shall be met:-

1 Work permit: Persons wishing to enter the UK to play as a professional player must obtain a Work Permit which is issued by Work Permits (UK) on behalf of the Home Office. Permits, which are non transferable, are issued to the applying club and are valid for six months and relate to specific employment. This does not guarantee the issue of a visa. Within the previous 18 months

A Work Permit player must have played for his country in at least one five-day Test match or three one day international or has played in at least five first class matches. Former Test match players, who do not meat the criteria above, must have played at least five matches in the previous 10 years. For a player to qualify for a position at a club that includes an element of coaching in his job description he must hold at least a Level 2 ECB coaching qualification. The minimum remuneration is set annually and is currently £210 a week plus accommodation, but any other payments ie air fares are discretionary and in addition to the remuneration figure. The contract with any player must include specific duties and detailed remuneration package plus copies of club and league disciplinary procedure.

2 Working Holidaymaker: Requires a permit which is granted to citizens of the Commonwealth who are under the age of 27. Permits are granted for two years and allow casual work but not as a professional cricketer. The person must intend to return to his country of origin to take up his normal occupation and the prime purpose of the visit shall be as a holiday.

3 EU Resident of between two to seven years standing: A person who is not qualified to play as an EU player (see above) but who is ordinarily resident in the EU who may play as a Non EU Player if he meets the following criteria.

1 Has been resident in this country for a period of 24 consecutive months before the date of the registration and

2 Has not been out of the country for longer than 28 consecutive days or a total of 56 days during the previous 24 months and

3 Any remuneration he received from playing cricket is not the main source of his income

D All enquiries regarding the interpretation of the Appendix shall be directed to the secretary.
