The SDS Bradford League allowed the White Rose Trophy to slip from their grasp as they suffered a four-wicket defeat by Aire-Wharfe in the final at Green Lane.
Bradford were made to pay dearly for a cavalier batting approach which saw them squander wickets to careless shot as they were dismissed for 160.
It was a totally inadequate score as the spirited and determined Aire-Wharfe side showed as they eased to a well-deserved win.
Bradford set off at a tremendous pace with openers Michael Nicholson (39) and Adam Patel (29) seeking to dominate, but even at that stage the seeds had been sewn for what was to follow.
The Aire-Wharfe bowlers could hardly believe their good fortune as the Bradford side repeatedly shot itself in the foot.
Skipper Mark Robertshaw was bowled without scoring and the dangerous Chris Marsden departed to a failed reverse sweep.
Slow bowlers Toby Jacklin (3-12) and Greg Pickles (2-44) prospered, as did Shane Etherington (3-41) who won the family bragging rights over his brother Scott who was in the beaten Bradford side.
Aire-Wharfe made a good start in response. The left handed James Pickles was particular severe on anything that was over-pitched as he shared a first wicket stand of 57 with former Spen Victoria and Farsley player James Ward.
The partnership was eventually broken in an unusual manner. Ward attempted to force the ball into the legside but it hit the short leg fielder on the boot and rebounded to wicketkeeper Michael Nicholson who took the catch.
When Marsden quickly added the wicket of Greg Pickles, Bradford came to life. The dangerous James Pickles was dismissed by paceman Ian Wardlaw for 48, and with the score still on 91, the hard-hitting Aire-Wharfe captain Mark McEneaney was dismissed by Chris Thompson for 26.
When Wardlaw removed Mark Harrison Aire-Wharfe were 97 for five. Bradford had a brief scent of victory but Man of the Match Toby Jacklin had other ideas.
He shared a crucial stand of 52 with Tom James which took his side to the brink of victory. James was dismissed by Wardlaw, the best of the bowlers with three for ten, with 12 still needed. Jacklin made sure there were no panics by moving on to 41 not out as victory was achieved.
His innings was an object lesson for the Bradford team. He showed patience, he showed determination, and above all he didn't try any rash strokes.
